Message from the Director

Director Iwao Sato

In October 2019, the Center for Research on Counseling and Support Services was established as one of the University Joint Education and Research Institutes, and as the advanced successor of the Division for Counseling and Support. The University Joint Education and Research Institutes are positioned as research organizations responsible for promoting the university's research framework from a university-wide perspective. Faculty members therein belong to the Division for Practice and Development, where they give back the benefits of individual support to the entire university and society by developing new methods of support. Simultaneously, they belong to the Division for Support Services and perform counseling and support duties.

The Division for Support Services comprises the Counseling Unit (Student Counseling Center, Peer Support Room), Mental Health Unit (Office for Mental Health Support, Communication Support Room), International Student Support Unit, Career Support Unit, and the General Consultation Unit (One-stop [Nandemo-sodan] Office). Clinical psychologists, certified public psychologists, psychiatrists, psychiatric social workers, and faculty members in charge of international student support collaborate to provide counseling and support services. We aim to address the increasingly diverse and complex needs of students, to enhance accessibility for users, and to improve the quality of support we provide.

We work in collaboration with the Office for Disability Equity and the Student Counseling and Support Group to offer a wide range of support services, including academic and employment support. We extend our outreach to all users, including international students, sexual minorities, and those with disabilities. Although our primary focus is currently on student support, we plan to expand our support services to faculty and staff in the future, as indicated by the absence of "Student" in the center's name.

We kindly ask for your continued support and understanding.
